MIDJ's 2024 Milan Design Week

MIDJ's 2024 Milan Design Week

Milan Design Week 2024 took place from 15 to 21 April and MIDJ was the protagonists inside Opificio 31 in Via Tortona.

In a fascinating and bright industrial space, MIDJ collections enchanted the thousands of visitors who were able to touch all the new products.

Starting from the outside, the visitors were welcomed by Paola Navone's Bolle collection in new outdoor fabrics.

On the ground floor, thousands of colorful butterflies left adults and children speechless as they admired an installation that talks about colour, nature and creativity.

In the timeless charm of ancient Greek culture, the butterfly represents the concept of "psyche", the soul. It is precisely from this extraordinary metaphor that butterflies become a tangible symbol of the countless creative souls who coexist every day in MIDJ. The installation will then continue to live within the Comprehensive Institute of Cordovado (PN) to rub off on the new generations with creativity.

Under the butterflies one could find the Kosmos sofa collection by Karim Rashid. The designer, special guest on Tuesday 17 April, described his project with this words: “Kosmos recalls a floating rock of softness and serenity. Minimal but at the same time comfortable sofas. Growing up in the 60s and 70s everyone was so optimistic about the future, with great experimentation with shape and technology. Today that vision continues to inspire me to create progressive objects that combine the human touch with the physical world. The modular shape of Kosmos creates a sensorial and relaxed environment for everyone.”

Also on the ground floor, two of MIDJ's most popular collections are present: the Stack chairs by young designers Martini & Dall'Agnol and the Plissé collection by Paola Navone, also in the new 120 cm diameter size.

Upstairs, an exhibition that inspired and created suggestions. All the rooms that have been recreated have a common thread characterized by refinement and elegance, without forgetting the liveliness that distinguishes MIDJ collections.

Numerous new products previewed for the occasion:

  • YAK design Nicola Bonriposi: the indoor and outdoor modular sofa built with recyclable materials that embodies the principles of eco-conscious design, while ensuring easy maintenance and longevity. A peculiarity of the Yak project is the material that makes up the body: EPP (expanded polypropylene) characterized by extreme lightness, a simple composition and is also a totally recyclable component.
  • FOIL design Giovanni Crosera: the table inspired by the shapes of the foils of America's Cup racing boats. It is a collection of tables with independent supports that makes environments creative and convivial. The large top, in different materials and finishes, seems to sail lightly on the vertical fins in an unexpected dynamic balance.
  • LESS design Roberto Paoli: the collection is the result of an exploratory journey that starts from the archetype of the stool and ends with the essentiality of the shape. Less is therefore functional and light, while maintaining its boldness.
  • TOKYOTO design Franco Poli: a chair that draws its origins and inspiration from oriental culture, in particular Japanese culture. This is an iconic collection, essentially developed in 3 materials, wood, leather and metal, which combine together in harmony and refinement.
  • TOSCA design Paolo Vernier: consolidated forms and historical archetypes push us towards a level of definition of details. The shapes of the Tosca chair design the space in an elegant and clean way. Hide, leather, fabric, veneer, enrich the seat and backrest, giving them absolute comfort. Its eclecticism makes it extremely versatile and suitable for both for domestic and contract use.
  • DROP design Gabriele Panciera: whether used as a coffee table in the living room or as a support surface in contract spaces, Drop, with its particular drop shape, stands out for its versatility and multifunctionality. The tops reveal storage spaces and are available in a variety of materials and finishes, including wood, leather and fabrics, offering a further possibility of customization.

Also presented were the collection expansions of the Amelie seats, the iconic Clessidra table in its new elliptical version and Mys, where the armchair, the waiting area and the pouf are added to the chair.
